Andre ScrubbHIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team goes for its fifth-straight weekend series win on Friday, March 25, when the Panthers take on Winthrop in Williard Stadium at 6 p.m. HPU took the first game of the series with a 7-2 win on Thursday.
Junior
Andre Scrubb will take the mound for High Point on Friday. The right-hander is 4-1 with a 3.64 ERA. He is second in the Big South with 38 strikeouts in 29-2/3 innings pitched. Scrubb struck out a career-high 11 at UNC Asheville last weekend to earn his fourth-straight win. After struggling in his first start of 2016, Scrubb has gone 4-0 with a 1.75 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 25-2/3 innings. Right-hander Zach Sightler will start opposite Scrubb on Friday. Sightler is 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA in five starts. He has pitched 32-2/3 innings and struck out 19.
High Point earned its fifth-straight win and its 16th in the past 18 games on Thursday with a 7-2 victory over the Eagles.
Redshirt-senior
Scot Hoffman got the win to improve to 2-2 on the mound for the Panthers. Hoffman pitched six innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking out four.
Sam Kmiec gave up five runs, three earned, in six innings to fall to 3-3. Kmiec gave up 11 hits and two walks and struck out five.
Sophomore
Carson Jackson and junior
Chris Clare both finished 3-5 at the plate while senior
Dominic Fazio went 2-4 with a walk. Jackson had two RBI and a run scored, Clare had two runs scored and Fazio had an RBI and a run scored. Seven different Panthers got a hit in the contest and each of the first five HPU batters scored at least one run.
