ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team will go for its first Big South series win of 2016 when it faces off with UNC Asheville in the second game of a three game series on Saturday, March, 19, at 3 p.m., in Asheville, N.C. The Panthers claimed the first game with an 8-0 win on Friday.
Junior
Andre Scrubb will start on Saturday for High Point. Scrubb allowed just one run and struck out nine in six innings of work against the Broncs last weekend. He is 3-1 with a 3.91 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. In his last three starts, the right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.49 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 19 innings of work and is allowing opponents to hit just .169 against him. Left-hander Jordan Carr will start for Asheville on the mound. Carr is 1-2 in his first collegiate season with a 4.30 ERA in 23 innings pitched. He has allowed 20 hits and 10 walks while striking out 14.
High Point put together a complete performance on Friday to earn the 8-0 series-opening win. The Panthers scored in six of the nine innings, including each of the final five frames.
Redshirt-senior
Scot Hoffman had his best outing of the season to improve to 1-2 in 2016. Hoffman threw 6-1/3 shutout innings with a career-high eight strikeouts. He gave up just five hits and two walks and at one point struck out six-straight Bulldog batters.
Jordan Fulbright took the loss for Asheville and dropped to 2-3 on the season. He allowed four earned runs on eight his in 5-2/3 innings and struck out one.
Sophomore
Carson Jackson finished 3-4 at the plate with a double, triple and home run. He had a career-high four RBI and two runs scored. Woodard also finished with three hits, going 3-4 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
High Point improved to 13-5 overall and 1-0 in the Big South with the road win. UNC Asheville falls to 4-13 and 0-1 in conference play.
