LIVE STATSLIVE VIDEOHIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men's soccer team hosts VMI in its 2015 home opener on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. The Panthers will try for their first win of the season with a victory over the Keydets.
High Point is 0-1-1 this season following a 2-0 loss at East Tennessee State on Tuesday. The match against the Buccaneers was a one-goal game until the final seconds when ETSU added an insurance goal.
The Panthers defense has played well this season, allowing just two goals in 200 minutes of action. HPU played to a 0-0 draw at UNC Wilmington before suffering the loss at East Tennessee State. Redshirt-senior
Kody Palmer has played every minute in goal for High Point this season and has posted a 0.91 goals-against average with a .714 save percentage.
VMI is 0-1-0 in 2015 after suffering a loss at Longwood in its season opener. The Keydets' lone goal came from Todd Johnson in the 80th minute to pull VMI within one at 2-1, but Longwood scored twice in the final 10 minutes for the 4-1 win.
The Keydets won just one game in 2014, finishing 1-17-1 in their first season in the Southern Conference. Three players scored for VMI in 2014 and all three return this season. Hunter Morgan scored three goals last season while Travis Borkey and Andrew Starnes had two and one goals respectively. Alex Guerra is back in net for the Keydets this season after posting a 3.41 goals-against averahe and a .676 save percentage in 2014.
High Point is 8-2-1 in 11 all-time meetings with VMI. The two teams last met back in 2013 when the Panthers earned a 4-2 win in Lexington, Va.
