HIGH POINT, N.C. – The No. 4 seeded High Point University women's lacrosse team opens the 2015 Big South Championship Tuesday versus fifth-seeded Longwood Tuesday in Vert Stadium.

Last time out, HPU wrapped up the regular season with a thrilling, 8-7 overtime victory over conference leader Winthrop on Friday inside Vert Stadium. Allie Foard posted the game-winning goal with 23 seconds to play in the extra session to send the Panthers home with a huge victory.

Foard led the Panthers with her fourth hat trick of the Big South season, while sophomore
Samantha Brown added three points on two goals and an assist. Burns played a phenomenal game and just missed her career best with an impressive 14 saves in a full 66 minutes of action. She allowed just seven goals en route to a .667 save percentage.

PANTHERS IN THE BIG SOUTH TOURNAMENTHigh Point is 5-0 all-time in the Big South Championship. The Panthers have won each of the first two league tournaments and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in both 2013 and 2014. HPU defeated Longwood in the 2013 semifinals, 17-7, in the only meeting between the teams in the conference championship.

A LOOK AT THE LANCERS (6-11, 4-3)The Lancers finished Big South play with a 4-3 record. In its most recent contest, Longwood wrapped up the regular season with a 13-11 win over Liberty on Friday. LWU is led by junior attack Katie McHugh, who is tied with Foard for second in the conference with 3.43 goals/game in league play. Junior midfielder Ezra Butler is second on the team with 52 points (33g, 19a). Senior goalkeeper Christian Acker has played 887:04 in the cage for LWU and has posted a 12.45 goals against average and .436 save percentage.

APPROACHING THE 300 SAVE PLATEAUSenior goalkeeper
Julia Burns has recorded 285 saves in her High Point career. With 15 more saves, the Arnold, Md., native will become just the second player in Big South history to reach the 300 save mark in a career. She needs 26 more stops to become the Big South all-time leader in the category.

UP NEXTWith a victory over Longwood Tuesday, HPU would move on to the semifinals Friday (May 1) at 4 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C. The Panthers would take on the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between No. 1 Winthrop and No. 8 Presbyterian.
