CHARLESTON, S.C. – The High Point University baseball team will try to clinch its second weekend series of the season on Saturday, March 14, when the team faces the College of Charleston in the second game of a three-game series at 3 p.m. HPU opened the weekend with a 6-1 win over the Cougars on Friday.
High Point will send junior
Tyler Britton to the mound on Saturday to try and earn his second win of the season. Britton is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA this season. The right-hander took his first loss of the season last weekend after pitching five innings and allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out six against the Blackbirds. He will face left-hander Eric Bauer for CofC. Bauer s 2-2 with a 4.81 ERA in five appearances and four starts this season. He has allowed 24 hits and seven walks while striking out 16 in 24-1/3 innings pitched.
The Panthers earned their third-straight win on Friday with a 6-1 win over Charleston. High Point held a slim 2-1 lead late before scoring two runs in the eighth and two runs in the ninth to pull away for its sixth win of the season.
Sophomore
Josh Greene had two home runs for HPU, doubling his career HR total. Freshman
Carson Jackson went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored while both senior
Josh Spano and freshman
Hunter Lee had both an RBI and a run scored.
Senior
John McGillicuddy earned his first win of the season and improved to 1-3 after allowing just one run in seven innings of work. McGillicuddy gave up just four hits and a walk while striking out four. Senior
Conor Lourey and redshirt-junior
Joe Goodman pitched the final two innings and combined for four strikeouts for the Panthers.
