Meet the Newcomers: Lindsey Edwards

The High Point University women's basketball team welcomes seven new student-athletes for the 2015-16 season. HighPointPanthers.com sat down with each of the newcomers for an introductory questionnaire and will be releasing one interview each Monday, Wednesday and Friday leading up to the season-opener against Greensboro College on Nov. 13.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Freshman Lindsey Edwards is one of seven new student-athletes for the High Point University women's basketball team featured in our "Meet the Newcomers" series.

Edwards, a Perry Hall, Md. native, comes to HPU after leading her Roland Park High School team to a conference final for the first time in 10 years.

Personal:
What three things top your bucket list?
I want to go to France, win the Big South championship while I'm here and I want to go skydiving.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
When people's jaw pops when they are eating. I know they can't control it so it's tough. But I just have to remove myself from the area.

What is your nickname and how did you get it?
Well on this team, everyone calls me "Tight Schedule" because during the summer I was in the library doing my homework all the time and my schedule was so busy. My family calls me "Z" or "Linds," but those are just variations of my name.

Who is your personal hero?
I would say my parents, just because they've made so many sacrifices for me during my life. The way they live their lives is really inspiring to me.

If there was a movie made about your life, whom do you think they should cast to play you?
Sanaa Lathan. Even though we don't look alike, she was in Love & Basketball and it's one of my favorite movies since I was little.

Have you ever been out of the country? What's the coolest place you've been?
Yes. I went to Jamaica when I was little. I was probably like 6 or 7.

If you weren't a basketball player, you be…?
I would be sleeping, eating and joining social clubs here.

High Point University:
Why HPU?
Just because I loved it here. Not only did I love the team and the coaches and the atmosphere, but also because of the academics and the values that this school prides itself on. It's an environment that I feel can thrive and grow.

What is your favorite part of the campus?
Probably the Slane Center or the cafeteria. I'm in there most of the time.

What is your major and why?
I'm undeclared, but I'm thinking about majoring in communications. It's a very broad major that will allow me to do a lot of things in the work field.

On the court:
How do you get into basketball?
Basketball runs in the veins of everyone in my family. Both of my parents played when they met it college. My aunts and uncles played, my cousins, my sisters, my grandparents… I've been playing since I was five years old.

How do you get your mind right for a game?
I listen to music before games. I like the song "Energy" by Drake that gets me pretty hype. Mainly Drake songs.

What is the story behind your jersey number?
Well it was my sister's number first when she was playing AAU and then those jerseys got passed down to my team so I took that number and have stuck with it.

Who do you model your game after and why?
Paul George, I love him.

What is your favorite basketball memory?
Probably last year's high school season as a whole. We were very successful and went to a tournament in South Carolina and won that. So just that whole team and that whole season.

Superlatives:
Who on the team would you least want to play in a 1-on-1 game?
I would say Kennedy Currie because she is really strong and could run me over.

In a 2-on-2 player/coach tournament, which coach would you pick on your team and why?
I might have to go with coach Hailey Yohn. I know she'd bring a lot of energy and she's a good 3-point shooter and we'd be a good combo.

Funniest on the team?
Kennedy Currie or Kat Harris

If you were in a Survivor Man situation, which teammate would you want with you?
Oh gosh… I would say Bre Davis because she's helpful and compassionate. I think we could work together to survive.

This or That's:
Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate
Coke or Pepsi? Pepsi
3-pointer or a huge block? A huge block
Get a steal or take a charge? Steal
Dogs or Cats?  Dogs
Early bird or night owl? Night Owl
Breakfast, lunch or dinner? Lunch
