Editor's note: "20 Questions" is a weekly series that will feature a High Point University cross country senior throughout the fall season. Lindsey Siska is part of a six-member women's cross country senior class determined to wrap up their outstanding careers with a second-straight Big South championship. In the team's most recent meet, the Salem, Va., native set a new collegiate best 6k time (23:19.80) at the Wake Forest Invitational on Oct. 16.
High Point UniversityÂ
1) Why did you choose High Point University?"I chose High Point because of the amazing opportunities we have here. I'm able to do research at the biomechanics lab and the professors are great. It's a very up and coming school. It felt like High Point cared about me as a person, unlike other schools I visited where I felt more like a number."
Â
2) What's your favorite place on campus?"I spend a lot of time in the Wanek Center Learning Commons. It has a great view up there and you can see the entire campus."
Â
3) What are your plans after graduation?"I'm currently applying to medical school. I want to either go into orthopedics or primary care."
Â
Cross Country Â
4) What are some of your best memories from your track career at HPU?"Winning conference last year. I was sick, so I was on the sidelines, but it was really cool to see everyone pull together and win. This season is my first full cross country season since I've been here and I've really enjoyed it."
Â
5) What's on your warm-up mix on Spotify/iPhone, etc.?"I listen to a lot of 90s music like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Third Eye Blind. And I listen to a lot of Kelly Clarkson."
Â
6) What's your favorite place you've run in your life?"Cody Seymour mentioned this in his 20 Questions, but it's called 'Carven's Cove' in Roanoke. There's a trail called the Enchanted Forest trail that's very aptly named. There are pine trees after pine trees and it's just gorgeous. It looks like something out of a fairy tale."
Â
7) If you could run anywhere in the world, which would you choose?"I went to Alaska when I was a freshman in high school. I never got to run outside when I was there and I would love to go back and experience it."
Â
8) Did you have a running idol that you've looked up to during your career?"When I was in high school I looked up to local runners, especially
Sarah Dorrell, my former teammate at HPU who went to rival Blacksburg. She was always in front of me and I always strived to run with her. Also Catherine White who ran at UVa and was an All-American. I also looked up to my brother, who ran in college as well. He's the reason I got into running."
Â
Team SuperlativesÂ
9) Funniest on the team?"I don't think there's one person in particular. I think when the whole team gets together and gets going, we can be pretty funny as a group."
Â
10) Most likely to succeed?"Julia [Zautcke] is really smart and definitely has the drive and determination to do what she wants to accomplish in life."
Â
11) Class clown?"
Kelly Hayes has a really goofy personality and is a lot of fun to be around."
Â
Pop CultureÂ
12) Favorite movie?"I really like 'Cool Runnings.' My best friend in high school and I watched it before every big race. 'Secondhand Lions' is my personal favorite."
Â
13) Favorite TV show?"'How I Met Your Mother.'"
Â
14) Favorite book?Right now I'm reading the Sword of Truth series. They're all a thousand pages long and there are 13 books in the series, so it's taking me awhile. But they're all really good. But 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy is probably my favorite movie.
Â
15) Favorite food?"Thai food. I love Thai basil with chicken."
Â
MiscellaneousÂ
16) What are your hobbies?"I used to draw and paint a lot but don't as much anymore. I like hiking and outdoorsy stuff. I do lots of hiking and mountain biking and kayaking."
Â
17) If you could have dinner at 1924 Prime with three people, living or dead, who would they be and why?"I'd love to have dinner with my grandfather, because he died when I was 14 and I never really got to spend time picking his brain and appreciating the wisdom he had to offer. I'd also choose Patch Adams because I've read stories about him and really respect his work. And I'd pick my high school coach because he's always a good time."
Â
18) If Hollywood were to make a movie about your life, who would you want to play you and why?"No one really tells me I look like an actress in particular but I like Mila Kunis as an actress."
Â
19) Who's your personal hero?"My grandfather. He was a very hard working, self-made man. He was very poor when he grew up in Arkansas. He managed to make it up to middle class and made a good life for my mom and her siblings."
Â
20) What's the best advice you've ever received?"My high school coach always told me to be patient. I think I got really annoyed every time I thought that, but looking back on it, I tend to be an impatient person. So it's something I always keep in my mind, especially with running and overcoming injuries. I have to be patient and not push it too hard, and I appreciate that advice."
