LIVE STATSLIVE VIDEOHIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team will play host to Charleston Southern in Big South action on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. The Panthers will try and pick up their fifth conference win of the season against CSU.
High Point improved to 9-3-4 overall and 4-2-1 in the Big South with a 1-0 win over Radford during the weekend. Junior
Meg Kowalski scored the lone goal of the night for the Panthers to give HPU the victory. The shutout was the 10th of the season for High Point and the eighth of the season for sophomore
Alex Persiani, tying her for the HPU Div. I single-season record.
Three different players are tied for the team lead in goals, including junior
Bri Jean-Charles who is also tops on the squad with nine points. Sophomores
Becca Rolfe and
Michele Micciche join Jean-Charles on three goals for the season. Sophomores
Meredith Dunker and
Taylor Romano are tied along with Jean-Charles for the team lead with three assists.
Persiani is tops in the Big South and ranks among the top 10 in the nation with a 0.45 goals-against average and eight shutouts in 2015. The sophomore keeper has allowed just two goals in conference play and recorded five shutouts in the last six games.
Charleston Southern sits just behind the Panthers in the Big South standings with a 6-6-2 overall record and a 3-4-0 mark in conference action. The Buccaneers are just 0-3-1 away from home on the season and are coming off a 2-0 loss to Longwood over the weekend.
Anna Sells is among the conference's leaders in points (21) and goals (9) on the season. Sells has three braces on the season with her last coming against Presbyterian College. Erica Gazzano and Sidney Doherty are second on the team with three goals each. Sells is also tied for Lydia Frierson for the team lead with three assists.
Three players have seen time in goal for CSU in 2015 with Alyssa Dellacqua seeing the most time between the pipes. The freshman has played in eight games with seven starts and is 3-4-1 with a 0.78 goals-against average.
The Panthers hold a 15-6-0 advantage in 21 all-time meetings with Charleston Southern. Last season, High Point got a 2-1 win on the road with goals by
Amy Burch and
Becca Lisson. HPU has won the last five meetings with Charleston Southern.
