DAVIDSON, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team came from behind to beat Davidson 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16) in the final game of the Wildcat Classic in Davidson, N.C. Freshman Haley Barnes had a career-high 17 kills and was named to the All-Tournament team.
 
"We had a lot of pent up frustration that we released on a very good Davidson team," said head coach Jason Oliver. "We were overdue for that kind of aggressive performance. Haley Barnes helped establish the type of mindset we need in the program tonight and she had a great match."
 
Barnes tied her career high with 17 kills to go with four digs, one ace and one block. Senior Kristin Heldt added her fifth double-double of the season with 10 kills, 10 digs and four blocks. Senior Chelsea Davis added 12 kills and a .345 attack percentage while junior Gabi Mirand dished out 45 assists with nine digs.
 
The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Panthers and improves the record to 3-6 overall.
 
High Point took big swings in the opening set but a couple of unlucky bounces took the team out of rhythm and allowed Davidson to pull away for the 25-17 win. After trailing early in set two, the Panthers tied it 8-8 with a kill from Camryn Freiberg in the middle. Davis followed with back-to-back kills to give HPU its first lead 10-8. The Panthers pulled away with the set and opened up a 19-13 lead. At the end of the set HPU depended on its seniors as Heldt, Davis and Katie Vincent scored the final three HPU points in the 25-10 win.
 
Sophomore Greta Griswold was at the service line for two of HPU's runs in the 25-18 set-three victory. She served three-straight points including an ace to give HPU a 17-8 lead and was back at the line for the final two points of the frame.
 
In the fourth set HPU trailed 2-3 when Vincent went back to the service line and led HPU on a six-point run. The Panthers opened up a 8-3 they never gave up en route to a 25-16 win.
 
Griswold finished the match with two aces and two assists and Vincent added six kills, two aces and one block.
 
High Point returns to the Millis Center to host UNC Greensboro on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
