College Soccer News Team of the Week
Junior
Mamadee Nyepon of the High Point University men's soccer team was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday. Nyepon scored three goals and had an assist to lead HPU to wins over UNC Greensboro and Navy.
Nyepon scored two goals against the Spartans and added a goal and an assist against Navy. The forward scored the game-winning goal in each of the contests.
Against UNC Greensboro, Nyepon broke open a 0-0 tie with a headed goal off a cross from sophomore
Austin Yearwood to put the Panthers ahead 1-0 in the 49th minute. He then added his second goal of the game in the 89th minute with a left-footed shot at the top of the box off a pass from sophomore
Ben Burdon.
Nyepon followed his two-goal performance against UNC Greensboro with a goal and an assist in a win over Navy. The forward scored the first goal of the game in the 24th minute when he took a pass in the box from senior
Adam Sewell and beat the keeper with a shot into the top netting. Nyepon then assisted on the second goal of the contest by chesting a ball back to redshirt-freshman
Pat Shelton who scored from 18-yards out.
High Point returns to the road on Tuesday, Sept. 17, when the Panthers will head to Blacksburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
