The High Point University women's soccer team fell to Radford in overtime by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night at Vert Stadium. Senior Kelli Joline scored the lone goal of the game for HPU.

"I am proud of the way the girls fought tonight against the two-time defending Big South Champion," head coach Marty Beall said. "Radford showed why they are the defending champion and why they have not lost a game in conference this season. I thought we created great chances and that our team defense was fantastic. To lose this game the way we did it really stings."

Radford scored the game winner in the final minute of the first overtime period when Sydney Golden scored on a free kick from 20-yards away. The Highlanders drew a free kick just outside the box on the left side of goal and Golden slotted a low line-drive kick just inside the near post to give Radford the win.

High Point took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a goal by senior Kelli Joline. Junior Jacky Kessler intercepted a pass from a Radford midfielder and carried it up the left side before hitting a lofted cross into the box. Joline shot the ball out of the air over the hands of the RU keeper for the score. The goal was Joline's fourth of the season.

The Highlanders got a goal back to tie the score at 1-1 in the 75th minute on an own goal by HPU's Alise Leompte. Julie Ruh'e got to the end line and hit a cross in front of goal where it hit off LeCompte and into the net.

HPU outshot Radford 19-7 in regulation and put seven shots on goal to RU's one. The Highlanders possessed the ball for most of the overtime period, and finished the extra period with a 5-0 advantage in shots.

Joline finished with five shots to pace the Panthers while senior Becca Hemby and redshirt-freshman Kelsey Perrell each finished with four.

Senior Jesse May made three saves in the loss for High Point. Radford's Che' Brown stopped six shots in the contest.

High Point drops to 5-9-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the Big South with the loss to the Highlanders. Radford improves to 12-1-1 overall and stays perfect in conference play with an 8-0-0 mark.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 23, when the team hosts Charleston Southern at Vert Stadium. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
