High Point University women's basketball coach
DeUnna Hendrix announced on Thursday that
Kendra Wallace has transferred to HPU and will play her final season with the Panthers in 2012-13.
“I am extremely excited to add Kendra to our team,” Hendrix said. “She brings with her a great amount of experience and a tremendous work ethic. She is a great shooter who will demand attention from the defense when she is on the floor and that will help open up opportunities for other players.”
Wallace graduated this past spring from USC Upstate and received a graduate transfer waiver from the NCAA in order to become immediately eligible for her final season of college eligibility at HPU.
Wallace, a native of Hurricane, W.Va., played in 87 games with 83 starts over three seasons for the Spartans from 2008-11 before redshirting last season. During her career, Wallace averaged 9.7 points a game and shot 33.7 percent from beyond the arc (172-of-510). She leaves USC Upstate as the all-time record holder in both three-pointers attempted and three-pointers made. Wallace's best performance came against S.C. State on Jan. 6, 2009 when she poured in a career-high 31 points and connected on six three pointers.
Wallace joins an HPU women's basketball team that returns four starters after winning 20 games and appearing in the WNIT in 2011-12. Senior point guard
Erin Reynolds (15.9 ppg, 4.3 apg) and junior center
Cheyenne Parker (13.0 ppg, 12.2 rpg) both return after earning All-Conference honors last season.
