The High Point University women's basketball team cut a 10-point deficit down to one point with just over a minute to go but took a 66-61 loss to Radford on Saturday afternoon at the Millis Center. HPU sophomore
Cheyenne Parker had 14 points, 12 rebounds, eight steals and seven blocks.
It was High Point's first Big South loss of the season, bringing the team's record to 9-1 in league play and 14-7 overall. The Panthers are tied with Liberty atop the Big South standings. Radford improved to 11-10 overall and 5-5 in the Big South.
"I think we were all disappointed in our performance as group tonight," head coach Jennifer Hoover said. "Give credit to Radford, they came out in attack mode and every time we made a run they were able to counter it. At times we looked like we were going to get over the hump but unfortunately we were never able to make the final play to put us over. We talk about rebounding all the time and tonight we gave up 22 offensive rebounds to a team with just one player over six-feet tall on the floor. We are starting to rely on
Cheyenne Parker to be our rebounder and it needs to be a group effort."
Parker's 12 rebounds were enough to put her over the 500 total rebounds for her career. She was 5-for-8 shooting from the field and 4-for-7 from the line totaling 14 points on the night.
Senior
Shamia Brown led High Point with 19 points and contributed four rebounds and junior

The Highlanders' Erwin-Spencer made a layup with 20 seconds remaining to extend Radford's lead to three points. Brown then made a free-throw to take the game back to two points before Radford made three free-throws of their own to win the game 66-61.
Following a Radford layup to open the game, Brown started the HPU offense with four points in the paint to give HPU its first lead of the game 4-2. Radford then quickened the pace and began a 6-0 run with points by Ashia Holmes and Hamilton.

HPU opened the second half with a 6-0 run with a pair of buckets by Parker and a pair of free-throws by Tremblay to tie the game. Radford then put up a quick four points to pull back ahead, 38-32. Following a quick back and forth, Tremblay knocked down a trey to bring High Point back within one.
Following a scoreless three minutes of play, Radford's Erwin-Spencer made a layup extending the Highlanders lead to five points, 50-45. Radford would extend its lead to nine points leading into the three minute mark.
High Point rallied to bring the game back to one point with an 8-0 run before Radford made three free-throws to win the game, 66-61.
