COMPLETE RESULTS

The High Point University men's track & field team competed in the weather-shortened Johnson C. Smith Invitational on Saturday. Freshman Evan Emery placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.91 seconds, despite his heat going into a head wind.

“We love having the consistency of knowing Evan can run sub-11 week in and week out, he'll be ready for the conference championship,” said HPU assistant coach Eric Dudley. “We had people competing well and lining up strong against their competition in this meet. Unfortunately the weather cancelled the last few events. We had three guys who were really excited about running the 5K and our sprinters didn't get a chance to come back in the 200.”

Alex Fisher and Ryan Venable placed 14th and 15th, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles. Their third heat went into a head wind and Fisher ran 15.20 with Venable coming in at 15.30.

Anthony Kilar placed fourth in the 1,500-meter and Mike Feroe placed 10th. Both came back to run the 800-meter. Corey Grove placed 36th in the 400-meter in 51.73, just ahead of Sebastien Bonnet at 51.84. Grove typically runs the 800-meter and Kilar runs longer distances.

In the jumps, Ben AuYeung cleared 1.83 meters (6-0) to place seventh in the high jump and Jacob Matthews cleared 4.10 meters (13-5.25) to place sixth in the pole vault. Steven Scally threw the discus 38.22 meters (125-5) to make the finals and place ninth. He also took 14th in the shot put.

Next weekend, High Point University hosts its only meet of the season, the VertKlasse Meeting, on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. at Vert Stadium.
