The High Point University women's lacrosse team raced past Fresno State for a 22-6 win on Sunday morning at Vert Stadium. HPU had 12 different scorers who combined for a season-high 22 goals. Chelsea Thompson had a team-high eight points (four goals, four assists) and Grace Gaeng led the Panthers with a season-high six goals and two assists.

“We changed some things on offense and had the girls moving a little bit better today,” said HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell. “Our draw controls were better and we were all over the loose balls. Our focus was outplaying the other team. Chelsea had a great game, she was our leader on offense and Grace worked very well with her. Everyone got on the field and got playing time.”

The win improved High Point to 7-3 overall while Fresno State dropped to 0-10 on the season. HPU is 1-1 in the National Lacrosse Conference.

Along with Thompson and Gaeng, Sara Kuhlman and Ashleigh Kassab each added a pair of scores. Alexis Goldman netted a goal, four ground balls and three draw controls. High Point outshot Fresno State 39-19 and produced 40 ground balls to the Bulldogs' 19.

Fresno State was led by Amanda Cross's two goals. Taylor Fiehler added a score, a ground ball and three draw controls for the Bulldogs.

Goldman started the scoring off for HPU and Thompson added a goal quickly after to give High Point a 2-0 lead less than six minutes into the game. After a Fiehler goal for Fresno State, HPU scored nine straight goals to give the Panthers a commanding 11-1 lead with 8:43 remaining until intermission. During the run, Gaeng netted two highlight-worthy goals, one behind her back and the other with a spinning scoop that found the back of the net. High Point led 12-3 at halftime.

Kuhlman started HPU off strong in the second half, assisting Mackenzie Carroll on a score and then scoring two goals on her own to give High Point a 15-3 advantage with 22:45 remaining. Gaeng scored her team-leading 32nd goal of the season with 8:37 remaining to push High Point's lead to 21-5. Leah Folgherait finished off the scoring for HPU with a late goal to make the final 22-6.

High Point returns to action for a home conference matchup against Howard on Friday. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Vert Stadium.
