Junior Erin Reynolds led the High Point University women's basketball team to an 82-75 win over Pittsburgh with a career-high 36 points on Friday night at the Millis Center in High Point N.C. Reynolds' career night ties the High Point Div. 1 single-game record.

"It was gutsy performance tonight," head coach Jennifer Hoover said. "I thought we got back to hard work earlier in the week and really got after it. We talked a lot in the pregame about dictating the tone at both ends of the floor and I thought that is what we were really able to do."

Reynolds went 10-22 from the floor and 13-20 from the line to match the HPU Div. 1 single-game mark set by Charlena Martin against North Carolina A&T on Nov. 27, 2004. She also added seven rebounds and had four assists in the win.

"It really feels great to tie this record, especially since we got the win," Reynolds said. "It really doesn't mean anything without my teammates and the win tonight. I'm proud of myself but I can't get a big head about it because we have a tough game against Vanderbilt on Sunday."

Senior Shamia Brown and sophomore Cheyenne Parker both came away with double-double performances in the game as Brown finished with 11 points and a season-high 13 rebounds and Parker finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Sophomore Taylor Tremblay also finished in double-digits with 10 points while also grabbing six rebounds.
Brianna Kiesel led Pittsburgh with 23 points in the game while Ashlee Anderson finished with 14 and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.

The win over Pitt is High Point's first over a Big East team since moving to  Div. 1 in 1999. It's the Panthers first win over a BCS opponent since defeating Florida at the Gator Holiday Classic on Dec. 21, 2009.

HPU finishes its four-game home stand 3-1 and improves to 4-2 overall. Pitt falls to 4-3 on the season.

Reynolds opened the game, scoring an easy layup off the tip as High Point started hot connecting on six of its first eight shots to take an early 15-7 lead.  Reynolds and junior Laura Whitt each had six points early to help HPU gain the advantage.

Down eight with 15 minutes left in the first half, Pitt used a 12-2 run to push ahead by a score of 21-19 with 10:44 remaining in the half.  Kiesel led Pittsburgh with four points during the run as five different Pitt Panthers scored.

The game swung back and forth with six ties and five lead changes over the final 10-plus minutes of the first half. Reynolds broke the sixth tie of the game and gave High Point a 33-31 lead at the half when she collected the rebound off her own shot and scored with a 10-foot jumper at the buzzer to end the opening 20 minutes of action.

HPU took control of the game for good as it opened the second half with an 11-5 run to go up by 8, 44-36, with 16 minutes left in the game.  Parker led High Point with four points to open the second half while Reynolds chipped in with three.

High Point would never relinquish the lead, pushing its advantage to as much as 14 points, 66-52, with 5:28 left in the game.  The Panthers shot 14-20 from the foul line over the closing two minutes to seal the win.

HPU's 46 free throws set a new High Point Div. 1 single-game record as the Panthers shot 67.4 percent (31-46) for the game.  Reynolds set new HPU Div. 1 single-game records for both free-throws made (13) and free-throws attempted (20) in the win.

The Panthers out-rebounded Pittsburgh 36-28 in the second half and added six steals and six blocks to pick up the victory.

High Point is back in action this Sunday when the team travels to Nashville, Tenn. take on the Vanderbilt Commodores at 2 p.m. This will be the first-ever matchup between the Panthers and the Commodores.
