“What a basketball game, no one should have lost that game,” head coach Tooey Loy said. “Winthrop was as good as I have seen them all year and I thought we were good. Both teams really dug in defensively and nothing came easy. In the play at the end of regulation,
Amy Dodd made a great pass to Mackenzie and she made a great pass to Erin. We need to get some rest now and get ready for Liberty tomorrow.”
High Point trailed by three with just three seconds remaining in regulation when Reynolds took a hand-off at midcourt from junior
“The play was something that coach drew up in the huddle,” Reynolds said. “When he drew it I just had in my mind that I didn't want to let my team down. Coach drew the play up for me to take the last shot so that made me feel like he really believed in me. I got a good look at it and shot it.”
In the extra period sophomore Shamia Brown put HPU up, 63-60, with three-straight free throws, but five-straight Winthrop points on a three from the right elbow Jessica Fansler and a layup by All-Big South first-teamer Shanice Cole gave the Eagles a 65-63 lead with 2:25 remaining in the extra period.
