The High Point University women's basketball team scored a season-high 102 points to pick up a 102-45 win over Bluefield College on Saturday evening in the Millis Center. The 102 points are the second-most scored in a single game by the Panthers in the team's Division I era.
HPU's 58.2 field goal percentage is a team Division I record. It is the second-straight game in which High Point has shot over 50 percent. High Point also tied its single game record for assists with 27 in the contest.
“I think that we are really playing great offensive basketball right now,” head coach Tooey Loy said. “We are sharing the ball really well and picked up 27 assists tonight after getting 20 assists against UNCG in our last game. We understand that when we share the ball we are a very good offensive team.”
Junior
Shamia Brown led all scorers with 21 points on the night while senior
Mackenzie Maier had a great all-around game with 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four blocks.
High Point scored the first seven points of the game and led 31-10 after 10 minutes of play. Maier and Brown each scored seven points for HPU in the opening minutes, shooting a combined 6-7 from the floor.
The Panthers shot 55.3 percent from the floor in the first half on the way to a 51-20 lead. Maier and Brown continued to shoot the ball well throughout the opening period, going a combined 12-15 from the floor. Maier finished the half with 15 points and Brown chipped in 12. High Point limited the Rams to just eight field goals in the first half and forced 13 turnovers.
HPU continued its strong shooting in the second half, going 18-29 (62.1 percent) from the floor. The Panthers built their lead to as large as 59 in the second period before ultimately winning by a score of 102-45.

Jazmin Cromartie also finished in double figures for the Panthers as Fields had 13 points and Cromartie scored a career-high 12. Senior

Cheyenne Parker came off the bench to pick up a team-high 10 rebounds.
The 102 points scored by High Point is just the fourth 100 point game by HPU since moving to Division I in 1999 and the most in a single game since the Panthers scored 125 points in a 80-point win over Emory & Henry in November of 2008.
Bluefield College's Katrina Morris led the team with nine points and six rebounds off the bench.
The Panthers improve to 6-5 on the season with the win, moving above .500 for the first time since the team was 3-2 earlier this season. Bluefield College moves to 2-9 on the year.
High Point returns to the road for its next contest as the Panthers will head to Athens, Ga., to take on the Georgia Bulldogs of the SEC on Sunday, Dec. 19. HPU is 0-1 against SEC teams this season after a 82-63 loss to Arkansas at the UTEP Thanksgiving Classic. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
