Freshman
Shawn Sloan of the High Point University men's soccer team has been named to College Soccer News All-Freshman third team, as announced on Tuesday. He is the first player in HPU history to achieve the honor.
"We're very pleased that Shawn has received this outstanding honor," said head coach
Dustin Fonder. "He is a very intelligent student and player and we hope this, coupled with hard work over the next three seasons, will lead to continued team success and individual accolades."
Sloan, the 2009 Big South Freshman of the Year, played in all 18 games with 12 starts during his rookie season. He scored six goals, the most of any High Point player and tied for fifth most in the Big South, and finished tied for the team lead with 14 points and two game-winning goals. Sloan was named Big South Player of the Week on Nov. 3 after scoring two goals in 33 seconds during HPU's 4-0 win at VMI.
