Box Score High Point took down Presbyterian by a score of 10-4 Sunday afternoon at Coy O. Williard Sr. Stadium to complete their first Big South sweep of the season and first since the Panthers swept UNC Asheville last season. The Panthers won game one 6-5 and game two 7-6.
Â
Mack Hite singled to centerfield for Presbyterian (5-21, 1-13) in the first inning and moved up to third on a double to rightfield by Cory Lyda. Hite crossed home on a groundout by Jared Combs. Like the previous game of the series, it would be PC's only lead of the game.
Â
The Panthers (10-16, 6-7) answered right back like they have all weekend posting runs in the first three innings of the game. Back-to-back singles by Jeff Cowan and Alfie Wheeler started the game and both advanced on a wild pitch. Bill Manion drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly and Billy Alvino singled in Wheeler for a 2-1 lead after one.Â
Â
In the singled, Spencer Andrews laced a two-out double down the leftfield line. Cowan singled to centerfield to bring in the sophomore. The third began with Manion hitting a single to centerfield and Alvino being hit by a pitch. Kyle Mahoney reached on a fielder's choice that forced out Manion at third base. The two runners moved up a base on another passed ball before Max Fulginiti singled in both runners for a 5-1 advantage after three innings.
Â
High Point put the game away in the sixth inning post four more runs.  They got a walk and four straight hits to start the inning including a two-run double down the rightfield line by Manion and a double off the leftfield fence by Alvino. Sal Pezzino brought in the final run of the inning on a single to leftfield.Â
Â
PC got an unearned run in the seventh, cutting their deficit to 9-2. Nate Horton stroked a one-out single to leftfield and advanced to second on a groundout to third. A fielding error by HPU that scooted into shallow rightfield allowed Horton to cross home.
Â
HPU scored their final run of the ballgame in the seventh which began with back-to-back walks to Andrews and Cowan. Andrews took third base on a fly out by Wheeler and scored on a sacrifice fly by Manion.
Â
Gabe Grammer homered to begin the eighth inning for the Blue Hose. A groundout by Horton accounted for the second run in the inning for the visitors, scoring Combs from third base.Â
Â
Five different players had multi-hit affairs led by Wheeler's three hit performance which also extended his hitting streak to 10-games. Manion drove in four runs while Alvino and Fulginiti both had a pair of RBI. Fulginiti also upped his hitting streak to 16-games, the highest for High Point this season. Alvino picked up his 15th multi-hit game of the season and has four straight contests with at least two hits. Mike Caldwell improved to 3-2 on the season working 7.1 innings allowing four runs (three earned). Wally Scott worked 1.2 innings of scoreless ball.
Â
Lyda and Hite were the only two Presbyterian players with multiple hits, three and two, respectively. Will Freeman dropped his record to 0-3 allowing five runs on six hits in two innings of work. PC used six different pitchers in the game.
