Box Score

High Point scored four runs in the eighth inning to rally past Campbell for a 9-8 victory on Tuesday night at Taylor Field.

The Panthers, who have won seven of their last nine, improved to 11-20 on the season with the comeback victory while Campbell slipped to 11-21.

Both teams posted double-figure hits with Campbell holding a slight 13-11 edge. A trio of Panther batters recorded multiple hit performances including Pablo Rosario (2-for-4), Billy Alvino (2-for-5) and Max Fulginiti (2-for-4). Brian Gana went 4-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored to lead the Fighting Camels on offense.

Jeremy Berg improved to 2-2 on the season, picking up the win with one inning of relief work for HPU. Bubba O'Donnell provided two innings of scoreless relief to secure his fourth save this year. Wesley Edwards (0-2) pitched the final two innings in relief for Campbell and suffered the loss.

The Fighting Camels grabbed the early lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Ryan Hamme tripled to start the game and scored on an RBI single from Ellis Lowe. Carlton Floyd drew a walk and crossed the plate on a two-run homer by Gana.

High Point answered with five runs in the top of the second taking advantage of two fielding errors by Campbell defenders to earn a 5-3 advantage.  Randy Schwartz reached base on a dropped ball by Campbell right fielder Brandon Scott and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Drew Geissinger.  After Kyle Mahoney slapped an RBI single up the middle, Alvino did the damage with a two RBI single through the left side.  Alvino's hit scored Rosario who reached on Campbell's second error of the inning.

Campbell fought back scoring four runs in the fifth and a run in the seventh to take an 8-5 lead heading into the eighth.  Brandon Scott and Gana sparked the CU rally in the fifth as both had two RBI.  Scott poked a double to right-center and Gana sent a two out single to right field.

Gana struck again in the seventh to propel Campbell to a three run lead, 8-5, hitting his second homer of the game.

High Point mounted its final comeback in the eighth scoring four runs to put the Camels away.  Campbell nearly escaped the inning with little to no damage, but a throwing from third base lifted High Point to its second big inning of the game.  Rosario, Schwartz and Geissinger all had RBI in the inning.

The Panthers continue their current nine-game road swing with another non-conference tilt against an in-state foe playing at Wake Forest on Wednesday at 3 p.m. HPU visits Winthrop for a three-game set this weekend to conclude the road stretch.
