High Point had its four-game win streak snapped on Saturday following a walkoff homerun by Winthrop that gave the Eagles a 5-4 victory at Winthrop Ballpark.

The Panthers slipped to 13-21 overall and 6-5 in Big South action after the loss. With the victory, Winthrop moved to 14-20 and 4-4.

Bennett Jordan led off the ninth for Winthrop and delivered the game-winning hit to break a four all tie. Panther reliever R.J. Chlebnikow (1-1) took the loss after surrendering the long ball.

High Point starter Sean Murphy lasted six innings giving up four runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Jeremy Berg worked one third of an inning, while Chlebnikow pitched the final one and two thirds.

At the plate, Matt Gantner was the highlight of the HPU offense crafting a perfect 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs.

Hamilton Bennett started for Winthrop going seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits while fanning seven batters. Josh McDonald was the pitcher of record earning the win after striking out the only batter he faced in the ninth.

After the team traded zeros in the first three innings, High Point scored three runs in the fourth frame. Chris Norwood hit a one-out single and Billy Alvino advanced him to third on a long single to right center. Gantner then plated Norwood on a single as Alvino moved to second. A throwing error by Bennett then allowed both runners to advance a base and, after Randy Schwartz got intentionally walked to set up a double play, Geissinger singled up the middle to score two runs.

The Eagles got right back in the game with the two runs scored in the bottom of the fourth. Tony Brunetti led off with a bunt single and Kevin Nolan plated him on a double to center field. Murphy surrendered a wild pitch allowing Nolan to move over to third and a groundout by Billy Froehlich was enough to score the run.

The Eagles used a two-run seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead. Eddie Tisdale led off with a double to left field and Tyler McBride, who entered the game as a pinch hitter, came up with a single through the right side to send his teammate home. Jordan then advanced McBride a base on a sac bunt and Aaron Bonomi's single to right center moved him over to third. Winthrop then executed the suicide squeeze with Bryn Henderson scoring McBride on a very close play at the plate.

High Point made it a 4-4 game in the eighth inning as Norwood hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on a sac bunt by Alvino and scored on a single by Gantner.

The Panthers and Eagles conclude their weekend series with the rubber game on Sunday at 2 p.m.
