Box Score The High Point University baseball team dropped the second game of their weekend series with the University of Dayton, 20-4, on Saturday afternoon at Coy O. Williard Sr. Stadium.
The Panthers (3-4) led 4-0 after three innings before surrendering 20 unanswered runs on 19 hits to the Flyers (2-2), who won for the second straight day.
Bill Manion went 3-for-4 to lead the Panthers at the plate. Alfie Wheeler (2-for-3) also had a multi-hit performance on Saturday while Robby Kuzdale drove in a pair of runs for HPU.
Jake Hoover, Max Navalinski and Kevin Miller each tallied 4 RBI for the Flyers with Hoover and Navalinski both collecting four hits on the day.
Lucas Farden (1-1) picked up the win for UD after working four innings of hitless relief after starter Sean Finn allowed four runs in three innings. Matt Schlanger (1-1) suffered the loss allowing five runs on four hits in five innings of work.
High Point got the scoring started early plating a pair of runs in the second when Kuzdale doubled home a pair of runners. HPU added two more runs in the third including an RBI single by Wheeler.
Dayton got on the board in the fourth striking for five runs sparked by a homerun from Hoover. The Flyers pushed across five more runs in the sixth to take a 10-4 lead. UD scored two more in the seventh then capped off their scoring for the day with eight runs in the eighth.
The Panthers and Flyers conclude their three-game set on Sunday at 1p.m. with HPU senior Bubba O'Donnell taking the mound against UD's Chris Beesley.
Following Sunday's tilt, HPU hits the road on Tuesday for a game at longtime rival Elon at 4 p.m. before hosting Appalachian State on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
