The High Point University men's basketball team halted a three-game losing skid with an impressive 77-54 victory over Radford for "Senior Night" on Wednesday at the Millis Athletic Center.

The Panthers improved to 15-13 overall and 7-6 in Big South play behind a stifling defense that held the Highlanders (10-18, 5-8) to just 23 percent shooting in the second half. The win was a historic one as it marked the 200th for head coach Bart Lundy in his 10-year career.

HPU senior standout Arizona Reid led the way in his final regular season home appearance finishing with a near career-high 34 points and 14 rebounds. It marked the 18th time this season Reid has posted a double-double and also marked his eighth career 30-point outing. His performance leaves him just 14 points shy of 2,000 for his career and only 21 rebounds away from 1,000.

Fellow senior Mike Jefferson chipped in 13 points including 10 in the second half and handed out a game best six assists. Sophomore Eugene Harris also reached double-digits on the night scoring 14 points.

Amir Johnson led the Highlanders with 13 points followed by Kenny Thomas and Martell McDuffy with 10 apiece.

Radford scored the game's first five points as High Point struggled on the offensive missing four straight shots and committing a pair of turnovers during the opening three minutes. The Panthers used an 8-2 to grab their first lead, 11-9, with 12:07 to play in the first half on a Harris trey.

The two teams swapped the lead several times over the next six minutes of play as both teams battled to find some consistency on the floor. HPU closed the half on a 20-6 run sparked by 11 points from Reid and back-to-back three-pointers by Harris. Jefferson, who missed his first six shots of the half, capped the run with a three-pointer at the buzzer giving the Panthers a 35-24 lead at the break.

Both teams went 10-24 (41.7 percent) from the floor in the first half but HPU drilled 6 of 11 treys (54.5 percent) and forced 12 turnovers in building their lead.

High Point turned things up on both ends of the floor in the second half. The Panthers pushed their lead to 21 points, 58-37, on back-to-back treys by Reid at the 13:38 mark. HPU would maintain a lead of at least 20 points for the remainder of the game as Radford struggled to make shots while the Panthers blistered the nets at a 51 percent pace. High Point's largest lead of the game, 24 points, came with 8:45 remaining when Cruz Daniels connected on a free throw making the score 67-43.

"I thought we had a very solid team effort tonight," said Lundy. "In the second half our guys did a tremendous job of grinding out possesions on both ends and I think that took its toll on Radford. I am thrilled that we sent this senior class out with a victory. Hopefully they will get to play at least one more game at the Millis Center."

HPU honored their quartet of seniors - Reid, Jefferson, Kyle Witek and Jerald Minnis -- during a pre-game ceremony on Wednesday night. Reid, Jefferson and Witek all started the game while Minnis, who was injured prior to the start of the season, dressed out for his final home game. The start was the first of Witek's career.

The Panthers will close out the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. against VMI in Lexington, Va., before opening Big South Tournament play on Tuesday, March 4. HPU would host a first-round playoff game with a victory on Saturday.
