High Point surrendered a big second inning to Radford and then was unable to make a final charge as the Panthers dropped a 9-5 decision on Saturday afternoon at Dedmon Center Park.

The loss snaps HPU's (16-15, 3-2 Big South) season best five game win streak while the win marked the first Big South victory of the season for Radford (8-17, 1-4) and allowed the Highlanders to surpass their win total from last season.

Radford broke things open with eight runs in the second inning, collecting seven hits, including four doubles by Corey Greene, Nate Toth, Tom Neiman and Jonathan Spears.

The Panthers got two of the runs back in the top of the fourth when J Williams singled through the left side, scoring Billy Alvino and Randy Schwartz, both of whom reached on hits. High Point scored twice more in the top of the sixth to cut RU's lead to four, 8-4. Williams doubled to score Schwartz, who reached on a walk. Pinch hitter Matt Schlanger then hit an RBI single that drove home Williams.

High Point loaded the bases in the top of the eighth, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Robby Kuzdale that drove in Schlanger to close the gap to 8-5.

The Highlanders got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Nick Minter tripled and then scored on Alex Gregory's blooper to right center.

RU starter Will Naylor (3-2) earned the win, scattering 11 hits through 7 1/3 innings pitched. Naylor allowed five runs while striking out five batters. T.J. Woody earned his first career save, throwing 1 2/3 hitless innings of relief.

High Point starter Eammon Portice (3-4) took the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings pitched.
