Box Score Barrett Luxhoj found the back of the net twice to lead VMI past High Point, 2-0 on Saturday in Big South men's soccer action. The Keydets improve to 6-8-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the league while HPU falls to 5-12-1 and 1-5-0 in conference play.
The Keydets got on the board in the 10th minute when a Chris Curtis cornerkick found Luxhoj in position for a header into the back of the net. High Point had a pair of chances to tie the contest in the opening period. Sophomore Matt Tuttle had opportunities in the 18th and 20th minutes, but VMI keeper Brian Sowell was there for the stop.
HPU would have another chance coming out of the intermission when senior Josh Windley was in position for the score, but Sowell was again there to stifle the Panther rally. Luxhoj would score his second goal in the 64th minute from another Curtis feed this time off of a free kick to assure the 2-0 victory for the keydets.
The Panthers dominated everywhere but the scoreboard, outshooting the Keydets 18-10 with six shots on goal to VMI's three. HPU also had eight corner kicks to four for VMI. Sowell finished with six saves on the day for the Keydets.
High Point will conclude the regular season on Nov. 10 when the team travels to Buies Creek, N.C. to face Campbell. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
