Box Score Sophomore Matt Tuttle recorded a hat trick as the High Point University men's soccer team defeated Randolph College 9-0 on Friday night at Vert Track and Soccer Stadium. The Panthers improve to 5-7-1 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 5-8-0.
Tuttle netted his first goal of the night with just ten minutes off the clock as Scott Rojo beat a RC defender to cross the ball in to Tuttle from the left side. Rojo and Tuttle connected again just one minute later for the second goal of the night as Rojo dished the ball to Tuttle on the right side and Tuttle was able to send it just inside the post.
In the 19th minute the Wildcats committed a costly penalty which set up Hilaire Babou for the penalty kick and give Babou his third goal of the season and put the Panthers up 3-0. High Point would score once more in the opening period when Chris Gonzalez took a feed from Alex Parker directly in front of a wide open goal to give the Panthers the 4-0 advantage in the 44th minute.
Coming out of the intermission the Panthers wasted no time getting on the board again when Tuttle set up teammate Chris Shrum on the left side of the box to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead in the 46th minute.
Senior Josh Windley got his first goal of the season in the 53rd minute when a shot from Babou was deflected and picked up by Windley in front of the goal who sent it in to the right corner.
Tuttle's final goal of the night came in the 54th minute as he and Rojo again combined for the score. Rojo stole the ball from a Randolph defender before sending it inside to Tuttle for the hat trick.
Babou would again get in the action in the 57th minute when freshman Alex Parker sent the ball through traffic to Babou in front of the goal for his second of the night and season. High Point's final goal was scored at 77:08 as Brandon Young passed the ball in to back-up goalkeeper, junior Daniel Clark, who was playing in the forward position. Clark picked up the first goal of his career.
High Point out shot Randolph 20-2 including 13-0 in shots on goal. Wildcat keeper Aaron Humphreys had four saves.
The Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they travel to Radford, Va. for a Big South contest against Radford University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
