South Carolina Drops High Point, 87-49

Box Score The High Point University women's basketball team fell to South Carolina, 87-49, this afternoon in Columbia, S.C. HPU falls to 5-5 on the season while USC moves to 6-4.

For the Panthers senior Leslie Cook and junior Amber Manuel led the way with 13 points each. Manuel also had seven boards to lead the Panthers in rebounding.

For the Gamecocks Iva Sliskovic led the way recording a triple-double with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. Melanie Johnson added 17 points while Lauren Simms had 12. Ilona Burgrova had 11 points to round out the double figure scoring for USC.

South Carolina started the game strong, jumping out to an early 18-6 lead in the first five minutes of play. USC would extend their lead by 20 (32-12) at the 8:44 mark on a jumper from Brionna Dickerson. The Panthers would rally with eight minutes left, holding South Carolina scoreless over the next four minutes to cut the lead to 15 (34-19) off a three pointer from Cook with 4:37 to go. The Gamecocks would respond to outscore the Panthers 13-2 to close out the half and take a 47-21 lead into the break.

The Gamecocks came out of the intermission firing and took a 29 point lead at 17:20. HPU would try to battle back but USC proved to be too much for the Panthers as the Gamecocks took their largest lead of the game, 85-46, in the final minutes of the game.

USC won the battle on the boards, pulling down 62 to HPU's 33. South Carolina scored 52 points in the paint to High Point's 16.

Today's game was the last one for the Panthers before the holiday break. The team will return to the court on Dec. 29-30 at the Florida Atlantic University Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
