UNC Greensboro won its fifth straight game as the Spartans defeated High Point, 6-5, in a non-conference game Wednesday night at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

The Panthers (18-30, 6-15 Big South) opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Chris Ramirez singled to right and then scored off Mark Shorey's double to left field. Shorey advanced to third on a stolen base then came around to score on Josh Cotten's sacrifice fly.

UNCG (28-17, 14-10 Southern) answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead. With the bases loaded and no outs, Justin Crist plated Logan Smith with the first run on a sacrifice fly to center. David Adams followed that up with a two-run single up the middle.

HPU claimed the lead again at 4-3 on a two home run to left field by Cotton (ninth of the season) in the fourth.

Seby Renta increased High Point's lead to 5-3 in the sixth with a double down the right field line that brought in Shorey, who led off the inning with a double.

The Spartans pushed across three runs in the bottom half of the sixth to take the lead for good. Adam Deleo drove in the first run on a double that hit the top of the left field wall. He advanced to third on Smith's single to short center field then scored the tying run on Jake Linney's single to center. Smith came around to score the game-winning run on a single by Crist.

Shorey went 4-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the Panthers.

Adam Krieger tossed 1.1 innings of relief to improve to 3-1 on the season. Patrick Currin went the final two innings to record his fifth save. Ricky Hudson (1-3) allowed three runs in three innings of relief to suffer the loss for the Panthers.

High Point travels to VMI for its final Big South Conference three-game series starting on Friday at 3:00 pm in Lexington, Va. The Spartans return to action this weekend for a three-game SoCon series against Appalachian State beginning on Friday at 7:00 pm.
