Box Score 2 Tim Holt went 5-for-6 at the plate and drove in four runs to lead Campbell to an 11-5 win over High Point in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Taylor Field in Buies Creek.
The Camels followed that up with an 8-2 win in the second game to complete the Saturday sweep a day after dropping an 18-5 decision to the Panthers in High Point.
Bobby Brown hit his first home run of the season for the Panthers, a grand slam in the ninth inning of game one.
Lincoln Smith (3-1), got the win in the opener, allowing five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work.
Rob Bland (0-3) took the loss, although six of the eight runs he allowed were unearned.
Holt's three-run double with the bases loaded in the second inning was the big blow for the Camels (9-3), who scored the game's first 11 runs.
Brown's grand slam drove in
Dustin Holtzman,
Seby Renta and
Randy Schwartz to complete a five-run ninth for the Panthers (6-10) after Renta brought
Juan Carcheri home with an RBI single.
In the second game, High Point took an early 2-0 lead scoring two runs in the top of the second inning on Brown's double down the right-field line which plated
Josh Doane and
Mark Shorey. But Campbell again scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to erase the deficit, and added a pair of insurance runs in the third.
Joe Waldecker (2-0) was the winning pitcher for the Camels in game two, while
Bob Helman (0-3) took the loss.
Josh Cotten had a pair of hits in the nightcap for the Panthers.
High Point returns to action Tuesday afternoon at Virginia Tech (3:00 pm) before opening a three-game series at home next weekend against Ball State.
