Baseball Sweeps North Carolina A&T With 18-3 Win

Dustin Holtzman drove in five runs and High Point completed a weekend sweep of cross-county rival North Carolina A&T with an 18-3 thrashing of the Aggies Sunday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro.

The Panthers improved to 3-5 on the season, while the Aggies dipped to 1-4.

Freshman Eammon Portice picked up the inaugural win of his college career on the mound. Ian DiGiorgio (1-1) took the loss for A&T.

Holtzman went 2-for-4 at the plate with with five RBI and two runs
scored. Chris Ramirez added three more hits, two runs scored and an RBI, while Ro Castro tallied a pair of hits and Jeremy Neyra scored four runs and drove in a pair.

Neil Rosser led the Aggies with two hits and two runs batted in on the day.

The Panthers broke open the game with a six-run fourth. Holtzman and Jon Pavlack had the two biggest hits of the inning. Holtzman had an RBI double to knock in two runs, and Pavalack followed Holtzman with an RBI double to left, driving in two more runs.

The Aggies aided the Panthers with a throwing error, a passed ball and a hit batter in the inning.

Portice earned the win after allowing three runs in six innings of work. Ricky Hudson and Mark Shorey combined for three innings for scoreless relief.

High Point visits Gardner-Webb on Tuesday (2:30 pm) and hosts Wofford Wednesday at Erath Field (2:30 pm). Live stats will be available for the HPU/Wofford contest at highpointpanthers.com.
