UNC Wilmington got a second-half goal from Caroline Renkin to knock off High Point, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in women's soccer action at Albion Millis Stadium.
The teams played a scoreless first half with UNC Wilmington outshooting HPU 8-5. The Panthers gained momentum in the second half, winning the shot battle by an 8-4 count, but were unable to come up with a tying goal.
Renkin's goal came in the 53rd minute of play off a pass from Justine Hammer. Renkin placed a nice shot into the corner to slide it by goalkeeper Hannah Nail.
Jen Evans led the Panthers with four shots, while Carolyn Bader had three shots. The HPU defense put together a solid effort, allowing just the one goal to the undefeated Seahawks (9-0-0). Nail had five saves during the contest.
"I was pleased with our team's effort today," HPU head coach Tracie Foels said. "We're moving in the right direction. We need to build on this performance for the remainder of the season."
High Point will be back in action on Thursday night against Longwood. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at Albion Millis Stadium.
