Box Score 2 Andy DeLaGarza allowed just one hit in eight innings of work to lead Coastal Carolina to a 4-0 win over High Point Sunday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both clubs at Watson Stadium in Conway, S.C.
Nick Thompson led off the top of the ninth with a pinch-hit single to break up the no-hit bid.
DeLaGarza (3-2) struck out 10 but issued seven walks en route to his third win of the year. Phil Leake (1-5) took the loss for HPU despite allowing just a single unearned run in six innings.
The Chanticleers scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings and added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to claim the win.
Coastal improves to 36-20 (16-8 Big South), while the Panthers finish the season at 11-44 (4-20).
The Chants broke a scoreless tie when Mike Costanzo lined a two-out double to right and scored from second when Brett Gordon reached on a throwing error. CCU picked up another run in the seventh when a bunt single by Chris Todd scored Derek Martin, and plated two more in the eighth on RBI singles by Martin and Todd which drove home Costanzo and Gordon.
Byron Binda relieved DeLaGarza following Thompson's hit in the ninth and finished things off.
With his League-leading 35th stolen base in the eighth inning, Rey Rojas finished the season as the Big South's leading base-stealer.
