Box Score Birmingham-Southern pounded out 20 hits and 
Jared Walker drove in four runs to lead the visiting Panthers to a 14-7 victory over High Point Friday afternoon in the opener of a three-game Big South series at Erath Field. 
David Horne (7-1) allowed one earned run in seven innings of work to earn the win for BSC, while 
Bob Helman (1-6) took the loss for for HPU.
The game featured a combined 30 hits and 10 errors.
BSC (30-10, 12-1 Big South) began the game with five consecutive hits and put four runs up in the process for an early 4-0 lead. Walker collected two of his four RBI on the day when his single scored 
Michael Cline and 
Matt Bogue, and the visiting Panthers made it 4-0 following a double by 
Connor Robertson and a single by 
Ryan Griffith which scored Walker and Robertson, respectively.
HPU (6-35, 1-12) countered with a run in the bottom of the first when 
Matt Keever reached on an infield single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit by 
Seby Renta.
Birmingham-Southern scored three more in the second for a 7-1 lead. 
Michael Wydner reached on a lead-off single and scored on the first of Cline's two triples on the day. Cline scored when Walker reached on a throwing error, and Walker came around on a Griffith single.
High Point got within 7-2 in the bottom of the inning when 
Mark Shorey reached on an error, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a single by 
Matt Richardson. The homestanding Panthers added another run to cut the deficit to 7-3 in the bottom of the fourth when 
Chris Draska, who had reached on a fielding error, came around to score when 
Anthony Bell got to first on another fielding miscue.
BSC came back with two in the top of the fifth and one in the sixth to lengthen its lead to 10-3. Walker's two-run single in the fifth and Robertson coming around on a wild pitch in the sixth did the damage.
High Point then clawed within 10-6 after scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth. Richardson's two-run single which scored Shorey and 
Corey Stang was the biggest blow.
But BSC put the game out of reach wth three runs in the seventh on a two-run triple by Cline and an infield single by Walker.
Cline, Walker and Griffith each had three hits for Birmingham-Southern. Stang led the way with three hits for HPU.
Five of the six runs Horne allowed were unearned.
The teams play again Saturday at noon.
