Box Score Abe Gonzalez threw a complete-game six-hitter to lead Gardner-Webb past High Point, 7-1, in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon at Erath Field.
Gonzalez (3-4) struck out 12 and walked just one to help the Bulldogs split the season series with the Panthers.
Phil Leake took the loss for HPU.
The Bulldogs scored all seven of their runs on four home runs.
Jim Glueckert homered twice for Gardner-Webb (17-17).
Leake (1-2) went eight innings and allowed just four earned runs, but surrendered two-run homers in the first (to
Blake Lalli), third (to
Ryan Quirello) and fourth (to Glueckert).
Trailing 6-0, the Panthers (6-30) came through for a run off Gonzalez in the bottom of the seventh.
Chris Draska drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a single by
Seby Renta and scored on a double by
Mark Shorey.
Glueckert hit a solo home run in the ninth off
John Wanger to complete the scoring.
Renta had a game-high three hits for the Panthers, while Shorey collected a pair of hits off the bench. Quirello, Glueckert and
Nathan MacDonald each had two hits for Gardner-Webb, which lost 4-3 to the Panthers on Mar. 24 in Boiling Springs.
HPU steps out of Big South play this weekend for a three-game series at The Citadel and visits Elon next Wednesday before returning to conference play on Friday, Apr. 23, at home against Birmingham-Southern.
