Box Score Winthrop won its second straight game with an 8-1 victory over High Point Saturday afternoon in Big South baseball action at the Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, S.C.
Chris Draska's ninth-inning home run provided the Panthers' lone score of the day.
Kevin Slowey (3-3) was the winning pitcher for Winthrop, while Bob Helman (1-3) took the loss for HPU after allowing six earned runs and striking out three in 7 2/3 innings of work.
The Eagles (13-10, 2-0 Big South) scored three runs in both the second and third innings to take a 6-0 advantage. Daniel Carte's two-run single in the third which scored David Scoggin and Matt Repec was the biggest blow.
Winthrop added single runs in the fifth and eighth innings before Draska stepped to the plate with two out in the ninth and hit his third home run of the year (which ties him for the team lead with Rey Rojas and Josh Cotten).
Draska and Anthony Bell had two hits apiece for the Panthers, who were outhit by a 14-7 count. Rojas also tallied his Big South-leading 14th stolen base of the year.
