Box Score

Matt Chastain allowed three runs and struck out five in six innings to lead Elon to a 12-3 win over High Point Wednesday in non-conference action at Latham Park.

The Phoenix improve to 8-12, while the Panthers dip to 4-16.

Corey Stang hit a two-run home run in the third inning for the Panthers, who host Radford Friday in the Big South Conference opener for both teams at Erath Field (2:30 pm).

Clayton Gordner (0-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing five earned runs while striking out five in 3 2/3 innings.

The Panthers climbed out of a 1-0 hole with three runs off Chastain (1-2) in the top of the third. After Rey Rojas was hit by a pitch, Josh Doane scored him all the way from first with an RBI double to left center. Chastain was able to get Chris Ramirez to fly out before Stang crushed his first homer of the season down the leftfield line for a 3-1 High Point advantage.

Elon scraped together a single run in the bottom of the third before taking the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning the featured a two-run triple by Grant Rembert.

The Phoenix added a single run in the sixth and five insurance runs in the seventh to complete the scoring.

Lost in the shuffle was a solid outing in relief by HPU's Jordan Reisman, who fanned three Elon hitters and didn't allow a hit in 1 2/3 innings of work.
