The 49ers won their seventh game in eight tries and improve to 8-4 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 3-15.

Rusco had two home runs and four RBI in the game, and gave Charlotte an early 1-0 lead with his fifth home run of the season over the right-field wall in the first inning. The 49ers got a single run in the second and five in the fifth for a 7-0 advantage.

The Panthers got on the board in the eighth inning when Anthony Bell singled, advanced to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a gorundout and scored on a wild pitch by Charlotte's Adam Mills.

Bell went 2-for-3 to lead the Panthers offensively, while Corey Stang, Josh Doane and Matt Richardson collected one hit apiece for HPU.

Lee Skaggs (2-0) threw five scoreless innings to earn the win for the 49ers, while Matt Christie (0-3) allowed three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings but was saddled with the loss for HPU. Mills pitched the final four innings to record his third save of the season.
