Trailing 1-0, High Point got the tying goal from
Chris Maness and then the game-winner from
Gavin Moss just after halftime to down host VMI, 2-1, Saturday morning in Lexington, Va.
The Panthers remain unbeaten in Big South play at 1-0-1 (2-6-1 overall).
"It was a typical, hard-fought conference game," HPU head coach
Peter Broadley said. "From our perspective we could have played better -- we had several chances we very well could have scored on -- but nonetheless this was a good win away from home."
The Keydets (2-7-0, 0-3-0) took a 1-0 lead on a
Ryan King score in the 15th minute.
Charles Nweke was credited with the assist.
But the Panthers came back and evened things up on Maness' unassisted goal in the 35th minute, and then got the game-winner just 24 seconds into the second half from Moss on an assist from
Matt Wood.
Matt Long made four saves in goal for HPU, which outshot VMI 13-8.
Both of HPU's victories this season -- against Wofford and VMI -- have come on the road.
HPU hosts defending Big South-champion Winthrop (6-0-1) on Wednesday at Albion Millis Stadium in a crucial league contest. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
