Wendy Williams' goal in the 22nd minute held up and Katie Myers recorded her second-straight shutout in goal as High Point blanked Birmingham-Southern, 1-0, in a Big South Conference battle of Panthers Friday afternoon at Albion Millis Stadium.

HPU improves to 3-4-0 (1-0-0 in Big South play), while BSC falls to 2-7-1 and 0-2-1 in the league.

High Point dominated play in the first half, outshooting BSC 11-5. HPU got all the scoring it would need in the 22nd minute when Carolyn Bader fed Williams with a pass from the right sideline and Williams beat BSC keeper Andria Gray from point-blank range for a 1-0 lead.

Birmingham-Southern threatened several times after halftime, but couldn't get the equalizer. BSC's best chance came when Christy Dettmer launched a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that Myers barely punched over the crossbar.

High Point outshot BSC 22-8 for the game. Gray made nine saves in goal for BSC, while Myers, who kept Belmont scoreless in a 2-0 Panther win on Sunday, tallied four saves for HPU.

HPU stays home this weekend and entertains in-state rival North Carolina State Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm at Albion Millis Stadium. Admission is free.
