Ryan Johnson drove in three runs and Wake Forest pitchers held visiting High Point to two runs in nine innings as the Demon Deacons downed the Panthers, 14-2, Wednesday afternoon at Hooks Field.

The Panthers drop to 13-37, while Wake improves to 29-19.

High Point got a run in the first off Wake starter Kyle Young (5-0) when Rey Rojas scored on a single by Kemp Smith.

The Deacons countered with a pair in the bottom of the inning off HPU's Toby Hoskins (1-6), and pushed across four in the third and two in the fourth before the Panthers scored their other run in the fifth. Nick Thompson led off the inning with a double and scored on a Colin Cronin single.

Hoskins allowed eight runs in 3 2/3 of work to the Deacs, who began the season ranked in the Top 25. Phil Leake worked the final two innings without allowing a run.

HPU can still qualify for next week's Big South Tournament as one of the League's top six teams by sweeping Liberty this weekend, as long as Radford loses at least one game to Winthrop in their three-game series.

The weekend set with the Flames begins Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
