Box Score UNC Greensboro pounded out 14 hits and improved to 14-0 at home against non-conference opponents this season with a 14-2 win over High Point Wednesday night in a Guilford County baseball battle in Greensboro.
The Panthers suffered their fifth-consecutive defeat and fell to 11-27 on the season, while the Spartans improved to 26-10.
Chris Hyatt (0-4) took the loss for HPU, while Mike McClain (1-0) earned the win for UNCG.
High Point drew first blood when Colin Cronin led off the game with a walk, stole second and third and scored on a single by Rey Rojas to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage.
The lead was short-lived, as the Spartans plated three runs in the bottom of the frame and went on to post a big victory.
Ken Keesee's seventh-inning solo homer (his team-leading sixth of the season) was the offensive bright spot for HPU.
The game marked the first of four straight contests for the Panthers against teams which have been ranked this season. HPU hosts Coastal Carolina this weekend. First pitch in the series opener Friday is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
