Charleston Southern won both games of a Saturday doubleheader, and swept a weekend series from High Point with 11-5 and 28-2 victories.
The Buccaneers (22-30, 12-9) banged out 20 hits in the game one victory, led by Brad Woods, who had four hits. David Martindale, Brad Jones and Adrian Vanderburg added three hits each with Vanderburg driving in three runs.
Freshman Brad Bissell improved to 3-4 on the season, notching the victory in relief of starter Ian Holmen. Kevin Burch (5-6) took the loss for High Point (24-27, 8-10), allowing six runs in four innings.
In game two, a seven-inning contest, CSU set a school record for hits in a game with 28, including three triples, three homeruns and six doubles. The Bucs picked up two runs in the first inning and broke the game open with a seven-run third, keyed by Chris Kellet's grand slam and Woods' three-run blast.
The Bucs kept up the onslaught with seven more runs in the fourth and topped that with an eight-run fifth. Brian Sole's grand slam in the sixth provided the final margin, the largest margin of victory in CSU history. Charleston Southern tallied 61 hits in the three game series, scoring 48 runs.
Woods ended up the series with nine hits in 13 at bats, including 2 homeruns and nine RBI.
High Point faces Virginia Tech in Blacksburg Tuesday at 3:00 pm before returning home to host Liberty over the weekend.
