Baseball Drops 6-2 Decision To Campbell

Campbell grabbed a 3-0 lead, weathered a High Point rally, and took home a 6-2 victory over the Panthers Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Erath Field.

High Point falls to 15-13 on the season, while the Camels are back to .500 at 14-14.

The Camels got on the board first on a 4th-inning sacrifice fly by Adam Hawes which scored Johnny Keelan, and increased their lead to 3-0 in the 5th. Derek Barrows led off with a single against HPU starter David White (1-4), advanced to second on an error, and scored when Sal Deanda reached on a throwing error by White. Keelan then drove him home from second with a base hit down the left-field line.

High Point rallied to post single runs in the 5th and 7th innings to pull within 3-2. Colin Cronin reached on a fielders' choice, advanced to second on a walk by Justin Keegan, and scored on a base hit by Ryan Thiede.

The Panthers' run in the 7th came when Cronin tripled to right field and scored on a Keegan sacrifice fly.

But the Camels put three runs on the board in the 8th off Rusty Bodenheimer to add some insurance. Campbell pouned out four hits in the innings, and Tom Rispoli's two-run single to left (which scored Daniel Ennis and pinch-runner Jeff Blick) was the biggest blow.

Andy Wade (1-1) got the win in relief of Campbell starter Corey Byrd.

The Panthers return to Big South Conference action this weekend, when Radford comes to Erath Field for a three-game series. The Panthers and Highlanders will play a doubleheader Saturday (1:00 pm), followed by a single game Sunday.
