High Point had a 5-2 advantage on No. 11-ranked Wake Forest, but couldn't hold the lead on the powerful Deacons and fell 9-5 at Alumni Field Tuesday afternoon.
The Deacons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but found themselves trailing 5-2 after three innings, thanks mostly to four unearned Panther runs in bottom the first inning.
Wake Forest railled to take the lead later in the game. Steve LeFaivre's two-run home run in the 5th gave the Deacons a lead they would never lose.
Ben Clayton got the win for Wake, allowing just one earned run in five innings. Riley Gostisha (2-2) was tagged with the loss.
John Cavanaugh went 3-for-4 at the plate for High Point (7-6), which plays a doubleheader at Wofford on Sunday.
