Gina Rosser nailed a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining to lift High Point to a wild 52-51 win over visting Furman Wednesday night at the Millis Center.
The Panthers improve to 3-2, while Furman drops to 2-3.
HPU led by as many as 15 points in the first half. A layup by Keauna Vinson pushed the Panthers ahead 26-11 with 7:40 to play before halftime.
After closing the gap to 30-22 at intermission, the Lady Paladins opened the second half on a 17-5 run to build its first lead of the game. Tommi Parris sank a layup and Kim Lawrence scored from inside to give Furman a 39-35 advantage with 12:38 to play.
The Panthers would answer with 12 straight points of their own to take a 47-39 lead on a pair of free throws by Kate Jenner.
But the Lady Paladins came roaring back and held the Panthers scoreless for more than five minutes to build a 10-0 run and take a 51-50 advantage on Deshara Shealey's jumper with 28 secondds left.
The Panthers came down the court, and Rosser was fouled by Katie Roach. She hit both free throws, and Lawrence's shot at the buzzer from 12 feet was off the mark.
Misty Brockman was the only Panther in double-figures (12 points). Vinson and Katie O'Dell, both freshmen, scored nine points apiece.
Shealey led Furman with 14 points off the bench, while Lawrence and Lauren Few each tallied 11 points.
High Point heads to Greensboro for a backyard brawl against North Carolina A&T Saturday at 7:00 pm.
