Alex Kragel scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed a career-best eight rebounds to lead UNC Asheville to an 83-72 Big South Conference win over visiting High Point  at the Justice Center.

Kragel, subbing for injured guard and leading scorer Andre Smith, scored 14 points in the second half to help lead the Bulldogs (7-10, 4-0 Big South) to their sixth straight victory. He finished the game 6-of-10 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Kragel also led the Dogs in assists with six and had six steals, all in the second half.

High Point (6-9, 2-1 Big South) was led by Dustin Van Weerdhuizen's career-high 26 points. Freshman guard Joey Knight added 19 points, while Ron Barrow chipped in 12 points.

Knight hit a three-pointer with 13 minutes left to give High Point a 48-45 lead but the Bulldogs roared back with a 10-0 run to grab the lead for good at 55-48 with 10:00 left.

High Point closed within 64-62 on a layup from Van Weerdhuizen with 5:46 left. The Panthers had two chances to take the lead but missed two three-pointers. UNCA was clinging to a 68-66 lead when Kragel took over.

He made a steal and went in for a layup to give the Dogs a 70-66 lead. Kragel then got another steal and fed freshman Julian Capel for a layup and a 72-66 Asheville lead with 3:30 remaining. The Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 11-6 the rest of the game as High Point could get no closer than four the rest of the game. UNCA was 7-of-9 from the free throw line in the final two minutes.

In the first half, High Point hit five three-pointers and got 13 points from Van Weerdhuizen to take a 36-35 halftime lead. Joyner kept Asheville close with 10 points and eight rebounds.
