Kara Rowland scored her first goal of the season and assisted on another as Birmingham-Southern (6-3-2) broke a halftime tie to defeat High Point (2-9-1, 1-4 Big South) in a battle of Panthers at High Point's Albion Millis Stadium.
HPU outshot Birmingham-Southern 18-9, but only five of the homestanding Panthers' shots were on goal, resulting in a tally of five saves for BSC keeper Tally Ewing (6-3-1). Cindy Watts stopped three shots for High Point.
Rowland launched a rocket into the net off a free kick from 35 yards away in the 55th minute to give BSC a 1-0 advantage. She would later assist on Eyrun Oddsdottir's team-high sixth goal of the year in the 90th minute to put the game away.
Although Birmingham-Southern is technically in the Big South Conference, the game does not count in the conference standings since BSC is a provisional NCAA Division I member.
