HIGH POINT, N.C. — For the first time in school history, a High Point University women's golfer made the Top-64 cut of the U.S. Women's Amateur as Makayla Grubb advanced on August 6 at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.

The rising sophomore played two rounds of stroke play, shooting 76 and 72 (+4) to finish T51 and earn a place in match play. Playing in her first U.S. Amateur, the Virginia native faced the eventual champion and the No. 8 junior golfer in the world Asterisk Talley in the Round of 64.  

Grubb was tied with the Californian through four holes as the duo played up until the 15th hole where Talley took the match win (4&3).

Following a successful summer, Grubb heads back to HPU after playing in five different states while making four cuts and competing in her first U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
