DURHAM, N.C. – The High Point University women's track and field team competed at two meets over the weekend. The Panthers first traveled to the Aggie Classic at NC A&T on Friday before going to the Duke Twilight at Duke University on Sunday.
At the Aggie Classic, the pole vault team was the only group to compete for HPU.
Emily Romano and
Lily Houston placed first with a 3.98m bar followed by
Angie Davis with a new personal best 3.68m.
At the Duke Twilight, the 4x100m relay team set the tone with a new program record time, 44.82 seconds for a second place finish behind Duke's 43.58 time. The team consisted of
Kendall Hicks,
Zamesha Myle,
Gabrielle Crane and
Quiana Williams.
In the 100m hurdles,
Mya Hines and
Jhanelle Thomas crossed the finish line in 22nd and 23rd place with 14.69 and 14.83 times respectively. In the 100m, Hicks recorded an 11.93 time for 19th place. Rounding out the track events, Williams posted a season best time in the 200m, 24.25 seconds.
In the field events,
Vanessa Kobialka competed in the discus and registered a new personal best with a 50.30m launch on her sixth throw of the day in the finals. She later threw in the shot put and posted a 12.73m mark.
In the last throwing event of the day,
Moriah Evans had a strong throw in the javelin, placing fourth with a 45.29m dart.
Romano competed in the pole vault again on Sunday and had a stronger day with a 4.10m clear to finish fourth behind Duke and UNC athletes.
In the long jump
Zamesha Myle also placed fourth after jumping a new personal best, 6.10m.
Gianna Paul jumped 5.81m for 13th place and Crane jumped 5.72m for 15th place.

High Point will travel to the Liberty Twilight for a mid-week meet on May 6 in Lynchburg, Va. for the last meet before the Big South Outdoor Championships.
